What is double-entry bookkeeping?

What does Plaid do?
Plaid is a financial data platform that securely connects to your bank accounts. Vibe Ledger uses Plaid to automatically pull your transactions and account balances without you needing to manually enter anything.
Is my bank data secure?
Yes. Plaid handles the bank connection -- Vibe Ledger never sees your bank login credentials. All API communication uses HTTPS encryption. Plaid is SOC 2 Type II certified and used by thousands of financial apps.
What's the difference between Starter and Pro?
Starter ($19/mo) includes all core bookkeeping features: bank connect, transactions, reports, PDF import, categorization, and audit. Pro ($49/mo) adds Crypto & Tax Lots (FASB ASU 2023-08 compliance) and Mining Operations modules.
Can I import historical data?
Yes. Use PDF Import to upload bank statements from before your Plaid connection. The dedup system prevents duplicate entries between PDF imports and Plaid syncs.
How does AI categorization work?
When a transaction is imported from Plaid, the system first checks your category rules (in priority order). If no rule matches, Claude AI analyzes the merchant, description, and Plaid category to suggest an account. Low-confidence suggestions go to the Review Queue for manual approval.
What is FASB ASU 2023-08?
It's the accounting standard that requires entities holding crypto assets to measure them at fair value, with changes recognized in net income each reporting period. The Crypto & Tax Lots module automates compliance with this standard.
Can I use Vibe Ledger for personal finances?
Absolutely. While it supports business accounting, many users use it for personal finance tracking. The automatic categorization and reports work equally well for personal budgets.
How do I cancel my subscription?
Go to Billing, click "Manage Subscription" to open the Stripe Customer Portal. From there you can cancel, downgrade, or update your payment method.
Can I export my data?
Transaction data is accessible via the API. You can use the reports endpoints to generate income statements and balance sheets for any date range. CSV export functionality is on the roadmap.
